Blooming Birthday Wishes: Watercoloring with Altenew

I am absolutely thrilled to share a brand-new card project with you today that is bursting with vibrant, botanical life. If you love the look of soft, fluid watercolor paired with bold, crisp floral stamps, you are going to love this one.

For this card, I combined one of my absolute favorite floral sets with a mix of stunning watercolor markers to create a bright, happy birthday card that is ready to bring a smile to someone special.

The Perfect Floral Fusion

To kick off this project, I reached for the gorgeous Altenew Blooming Delight set. The line art in this set is so beautifully detailed, making it an absolute dream to color.

Instead of sticking to a single color palette, I decided to give this card a fresh, tropical-meets-springtime energy. I chose a striking, large pink blossom as the focal point at the bottom, and balanced it with soft, sunny yellow flowers nesting just above it.

Custom Colors with Watercolor Brush Markers

To get those smooth transitions and vivid depths of color, I used a combination of two incredible marker sets:

Finishing Touches

To make sure the flowers remained the absolute stars of the show, I added a very soft, watery blue wash to the background. This subtle contrast gives the card a clean, open-air feel.

Finally, I kept the sentiment beautifully minimalist. A simple, crisp “happy birthday” greeting printed in white on a sleek black strip adds just the right touch of modern elegance without distracting from the main floral arrangement.

Pro Tip: When watercoloring stamped images, always make sure to use a water-safe ink (like pigment ink or archival ink) and high-quality watercolor paper so your lines stay perfectly crisp!
